Kannur airport foundation stone to be laid on Dec 17

FOUNDATION-STONE for the Kannur Airport will be laid at 11 am on December 17.

Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, and other Union ministers from the state will be present at the function.

The Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL) has been assigned the task of preparing a master plan for the runway of the airport. About 1,270 acres of land has been acquired for the airport.  Another 783 acres of land will be acquired for the purpose.

A meeting of officials and representatives of the people was held at the Collectorate here on Thursday. Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishna was present at the meeting. District Collector V K Balakrishnan presided over the meeting.

Renovation work of Kannur-Mattanur, Thalassery-Anjarakkandy and Thalassery-Mattanur roads also would be taken up as part of the airport project shortly.

K K Sailaja MLA, Seena Ismail, chairperson of  Mattanur municipality, representatives of Kinfra and other officials participated in the meting.
